At KEPLR, seminars are held targeting participating research laboratories, with the aim of fostering connections among participants. The 7th seminar was organized by TsuchimatsuG and took place at the University of Tokyo.

　こんにちは。第二弾のイスラエル留学の記事は、イスラエルへ渡航する準備段階から現地に着くまでについてです。

　他の国や研究機関で必要になるかどうかはわかりませんが、Technionへ留学する際には、現所属機関からTechnion宛に留学の詳細（渡航期間や費用など）が書かれたオフィシャルレターを送り、承認されてから大使館でのビザ手続きという流れでした。
　本当のところは、4月に渡航したいと思っていましたが、イスラエルは4月に大きな祝日があり、全く連絡が取れませんでした...。さらに先方のネットワークトラブルも重なり...。
「教訓1. 連絡が取れるメールアドレスやSNSがあれば、片っ端から連絡するべし」

　なんとか承認が得られ、いよいよビザ申請となりましたが、申請には保険加入・住居決め・航空券手配・予防接種、そして自分の場合はパスポートの更新という5つの壁が立ちはだかっていました。この中で最優先しなければならないのは、住居決めでした。住居が決まらないと、そもそも保険の加入ができず、保険加入が完了しなければ、もちろんビザ申請は出来ません。ちなみに保険は、大学から指定された保険会社に入りました（1年分を一括払い...貯金がぁぁぁ）。申請前に航空券を購入しておく必要があり、緻密な逆算が求めらました。予防接種は最短1ヶ月程度かかる見込みでした。費用はトータル約10万円で、外務省が推奨しているものを打ちました。
「教訓2. ビザ有り渡航は計画的に」

　渡航予定日の1週間前くらいにビザが届き、いよいよ渡航へ。利用した航空会社はイスラエルの航空会社エル・アル航空です。世界一厳しいと噂のエル・アル航空。チェックイン前に30分以上にわたる"尋問"があり、ようやく終わったと思ったら、保安検査場をとり抜けて、搭乗する前にも再度入念な荷物チェック&ボディチェック。搭乗までに一苦労です。もたもたしすぎて、一番最後に搭乗することになってしまいました。機内はとても快適で、入国審査は全然厳しくありませんでした。宿泊先にのAirbnbまでは、電車やバスを乗り継いで行こうと思っていましたが、ラボマネージャーの手厚いサポートがあり、タクシーで行けました（2万円くらいしていた。ありがたや、ありがたや）

　この記事を見に来てくださった方、ありがとうございます。2023年の6月からイスラエルのテクニオン-イスラエル工科大学 (Technion- Israel Institute of Technology)へ留学していましたポスドクの中島耕大です。「どうして私がイスラエルに！？」行くことになったのかをご紹介したいと思います。少しでも留学先決定の参考になったら幸いです。
　今から遡ること7年（え！もう7年前！）。修士1年生だった私は、指導教官の粋な計らいで初の国際学会 (Gordon Research Conference; GRC)に参加することとなりました。
　2017年...。この年の初めから私の研究したいと思っていた分野で立て続けに論文が発表されました。GCS1という植物で発見された配偶子融合因子の構造が、線虫の体細胞融合因子やウイルスの膜融合因子と瓜二つであることが報告されました。これらを報告した3グループの著者がこぞってGRCに参加するとのことで、気合を入れて指導教員不在の中、参加しました。中でも私はイスラエルのグループが報告した論文がお気に入りでした。分子の機能を創って理解する構成的なアプローチをとっていました。初日から積極的にイスラエルの先生にお声がけをし、学会中の晩にはディスカッションを行いました。これが功を奏し、共同研究する運びとなりました。学生の間にも渡航をしたい気持ちはありましたが、コロナウイルス感染拡大などもあり訪問することはできていませんでした。7年の時を経て、満を持してこの国際先導研究の派遣でTechnionのPodbilewicz labへと行くことが叶いました。

The 6th KEPLR Seminar Series, organized by Prof. Nasuda, was held at Kyoto University.Over 20 participants, including Prof. Kohchi of the Kohchi Group, attended the event.

Participants visited the Kyoto University Farm and the indoor cultivation room for wheat plants at the Faculty of Agriculture. The seminar was held at the 'Former Head Office of Forest Research Station' (a building constructed in 1931 and registered as a tangible cultural property of the country in 1998). Here, research presentations were made by members of the Nasuda group, followed by discussions among the participants.

The kick-off meeting in Europe was organized by Vice-Director Professor Ueli Grossniklaus. It took place on November 21, 2023, at the University of Zurich in the Department of Plant and Microbial Biology, with 69 attendees.

At the symposium, lectures were given by KEPLR members. During the poster session, discussions took place between the presenters, who are young researchers, and other researchers.
