Nuclei of three types of cells in cycad pollen were observed in detail using Airyscan confocal microscope.

It is exciting to explore the evolution of sexual reproduction in land plants by focusing on gymnosperm cycads that produce swimming sperms in the pollen tube. The regulation of germline in pollen development also differs from that of flowering plants. Difference in appearance of the nuclei is discussed among the three types of cells in mature pollen.
